Etch, 2023 | Necklace, Ring | Hand Carve, Fabrication | Soap, Silver, String
Etch is a series of wearable objects carved from soap and worn during everyday acts of washing.
Jewelry is often made to endure. It preserves memory, marks identity, and remains close to the body. Soap, by contrast, exists through its own gradual disappearance. By combining these two forms, Etch transforms jewelry from a permanent object into something temporary and continuously changing.
Water, friction, heat, and skin slowly reshape each piece. Every act of washing becomes an act of carving; every moment of contact removes part of the object while recording the time spent with it.
The work considers intimacy not as preservation, but as erosion. The closer the object remains to the body, the more quickly it disappears. Eventually, the physical piece may be gone, leaving its traces displaced into photographs, bodily memory, scent, and routine.
